Summary of the Research Field

The aim of the research field

Adenosine-5'-triphosphate (ATP) is the medium for the supply and demand of energy in living cell systems. However, the effective qualities of ATP have not been fully clarified to date, that is, a complete molecular theory explaining the transfer of chemical energy to physical strength in living organisms has not been established. The aim of this research field is investigate the related fundamental themes covering both the fields of material science and life science. With water, the environmental foundation supporting the existence of all living organisms, the fundamental guideline here is to open a new interdisciplinary research field, one that is not constricted by the existing concepts, and aim for a new energy theory explaining the fundamental molecular structure of intercellular energy transfer, soundly based on structural and functional theory. In order to accomplish this task, the fusion of separate research fields, leading to the development of a new methodology concept and the fostering of a new generation of research scientists are essential. Along with the existing scheduled research, we intend to vitalize public appeals for unique research opportunities across a wide range of research fields, and promote the systematization of these projects while maintaining a close relationship between the various theoretical and experimental research efforts.

Background of the Research Field - The Importance of Water
The theory of energy in living organisms clearly shows a dynamic, continuous supply and demand of energy. The molecule that functions as the vehicle for this supply and demand of energy is adenosine-5'-triphosphate (ATP). A large amount of free energy is created (called ATP energy) during the process of ATP hydrolysis where ATP is converted into ADP and inorganic phosphoric acid Pi or the opposite reaction where ATP is created. Especially surprising is the fact that even now, more than 80 years after the discovery of ATP, and about 60 years after it was proposed to be the main molecule involved in inter-cellular energy transfer, no molecular theory on the source of ATP energy exists verified by rigorous scientific experiments. As if that is not deplorable enough, even in fields such as biochemistry and biophysics, where there is a direct relationship with energy theory, across the entire field of life science the subject has been treated as if a theory has been established stating that the source of ATP energy is the instability of the structure of the ATP molecule itself. It may be considered that the main reason for this worrisome situation is the rarefied quality of the substantialism-like awareness of the interaction between water, the environmental mother of all living organisms on earth and bio molecular particles. This situation is in stark contrast to the established theory on the function of the complementary bonding of hydrogen molecules between with the bases that form DNA molecules in the replication and transcription of information.
Aims
In order to achieve the aims of this research field, it is essential to develop new methodologies through the "Fusion" of a wide range of different fields of research. To that end, we are promoting close cooperation and the systemization of fundamental research, the formation of new theories and experimental verification research (single molecule measurements, precise measurements of reaction heat, and the analysis of hydration conditions through studies on the dielectric dispersion spectroscopy) through gathering together research experts in various fields, such as solution chemistry, statistical biophysics, and biochemistry. It is expected that the promotion of fusion research covering these various subjects, such as single molecule measurements, solution chemistry and thermal measurements, and an integrated, organic approach covering both structural and functional aspects, will lead to a new, higher level energy theory.
