Sanctuary for the Academic Advancement
Sendai is known as one of the best academic cities in Japan. Tohoku University has been the center of academic advancement of Japan and the region, both on human and physical sciences. Many people with enthusiasm gather here to gratify their academic appetites in this academic city.

Sendai Castle (or Aoba Castle) was built by Date Masamune. The stone walls have been carefully reconstructed and a statue of Date Masamune riding on a horse overlooks the town. The Aoba Castle Museum is also located here.

Hiraizumi, Iwate
At the end of the 11th century, the ancient capital of Hiraizumi flourished as the center of a unique Buddhist culture developed by the Oshu Fujiwara family that was based on Pure Land Buddhism. Hiraizumi became inscribed on UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage List on June 26, 2011.

Matsushima Bay, Miyagi
Being surrounded by 260 islands creating alovely picture. Matsushima is considered as one of the three most beautiful sights in Japan and has been highly acclaimed in American and European guidebooks. Furthermore, it is preparing for candidacy as a World Heritage site. Major sightseeing spots can be reached on foot from JR Matsushima Kaigan Station.

Zao Okama, Miyagi
A symbol of Zao is "Okama", a deep blue and very mysterious lake. It's also called Goshikinuma because the color changes several times a day depending on the angle of the sunlight. (perimeter of about 1.5 kilometers and water depth of about 25 meters.)

Yamadera, Yamagata
Yamadera is a scenic temple located in the mountains northeast of Yamagata City. The temple grounds extend high up a steep mountainside, from where there are great views down onto the valley. The temple was founded over a thousand years ago in 860. Its popular name, Yamadera, literally means "mountain temple" in Japanese.
